The following is a column from Mick Raich, President of RCM Consulting for Lighthouse Lab Services:
“It’s déjà vu all over again.” — Yogi Berra.
In a recent conversation with one of our southern pathology groups, we are realizing it is May of 2020 again. Their hospital has shut down elective surgeries, they have very little surgical volume (about 15% of the norm) and things do not look good as they have 200 Covid-positive inpatients. In short, it’s back.
The good news is experts think the Delta variant runs about a 30- to 50-day course and our group’s site is about halfway through it, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The bad news is their clinicians are working hard to try and save lives against this variant, and there is no guarantee the next strain will not be worse.
Here is how we are helping: Like last spring, we are offering this group a discount on their service rate as they aren’t collecting any revenue at this time. It’s not much, but it is something we can do to help them during this trying time.
If your practice is suffering through similar issues, reach out to your vendors and ask them to help. This team mindset is what helps Vachette remain strong for our clients now and for the past 19 years.
