Report: UHC terminating contracts of some regional, independent labs

December 14, 2018

UnitedHealthcare is working to terminate some of the insurer’s existing contracts with several regional and independent laboratories, according to a recent report publish by The Dark Report.

The report goes on to speculate this decision is being spurred by the fact that UHC and Aetna added national laboratory companies to their networks in 2018, which may serve to eliminate coverage gaps previously filled by the terminated labs.

The shift away from fee-for-service payments and toward value-based reimbursement is also cited as another potential factor in the decision.

The full report can be viewed online here.
