As of Oct. 1, Kansas healthcare providers who are non-participating with UnitedHealthcare Medicaid products must now request prior-authorization for all non-emergent or urgent care, according to a communication recently received by multiple Vachette clients.
The letter states: “Effective October 1, 2019, Out-of-Network physicians, facilities, and all other health care providers must request prior authorization for all procedures and services excluding emergent or urgent care.”
Currently, this policy is only effective in Kansas for UHC Medicaid products.
However, recent conversations with UHC reps indicate this policy could soon be rolled out in other states as well. We will continue to monitor its impact in the meantime.
